New 3 digit number to reach the National Suicide Prevention Hotline

They've talked about it for a couple of years and NOW it's finally here! If you call 9-1-1, you can get medical services, or the police or fire departments, but not mental health services. And considering the stress we have all been under the last couple of years, more of us are seeking help. Before you had to seek out the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or if you memorized it even better. Now you only have to remember 3 digits, 9-8-8. That number goes into effect on July 16th. The CEO of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) “By signing this bill into law, we are making real progress toward ensuring people in crisis get help, not handcuffs. We are grateful to Congress and the FCC for their efforts in moving this legislation forward and making 9-8-8 a reality.”
