Your smart device might be public without your permission starting today. Amazon launched "Amazon Sidewalk" which automatically opts IN your Alexa, Echo, Ring and other Amazon devices to connect them to a shared neighborhood network of smart devices. It does make your wifi MORE public and susceptible to hackers than it already is. Attorney General William Tong says Amazon could have been more transparent. "Amazon has a lot of information and we want to make sure from a privacy perspective that we're doing everything we can to protect it."
You can enable or disable the Amazon Sidewalk by:
- Open the Alexa app.
- Open More, select Settings.
- Select Account Settings.
- Select Amazon Sidewalk.
- Turn Amazon Sidewalk On or Off for your account
