A Georgia fourth-grader is being praised for saving the life of a classmate who was choking. Julian Pedraza was eating lunch with the other students at Martin Elementary School in Flowery Branch, northeast of Atlanta, when he noticed that one of his classmates was choking. Julian jumped right in and started performing the Heimlich maneuver on his choking classmate and was able to clear the kid’s airway.
When asked how he knew what to do when someone is choking, the fourth-grader says he learned to perform the Heimlich from a poster at the school. The school plans to throw a pizza party for Julian and his friends as a reward for his heroic act.
