WWII Vet Meets Great-Grandson After He Recovers From Coronavirus

Jimmie Fisher spent months being isolated from his family because of the coronavirus, but now the 96-year-old is celebrating his recovery from COVID-19. He’s finally getting the chance to meet his newest family member, his eight-week-old great grandson, Mal’akhai Alexander Ezekiel Love.

The World War II veteran tested positive for the illness two weeks after the baby boy was born and wasn’t able to see him in person until now. Fisher’s family wasn’t able to visit him while he was recovering, but he did get a first look at his then two-week-old great grandson during a Zoom call. Those weeks apart were hard on them all, but the Michigan man did well and their separation has made their recent reunion so much sweeter.

“This is why you get up in the morning,” Fisher’s daughter, Kim Love, says of her dad meeting the baby. “This is what you live for.”
