Valentine’s Day is just a few weeks away! Are you single? Not having someone special to spend it with isn’t a concern for many singles, according to new research. A new study from Dating.com, part of Dating Group, the company behind more than 40 online dating sites, finds that 61% of people will be single by choice this Valentine’s Day. And they’re actually glad.
“This new data study revealed that an unprecedented amount of people are single, and totally happy about it,” says Maria Sullivan, Vice President and Dating Expert of Dating.com. “Currently we're seeing that singles are celebrating rather than stressing out about their relationship status (or lack of one) and taking a more carefree approach to dating.”
Dating.com’s research reveals:
- 74% of singles say Valentine’s Day adds too much pressure on a budding relationship.
- 42% of those surveyed say they would even break up with their partner to avoid having to pay for a special Valentine’s Day celebration.
- 38% of singles plan to spend time with friends on Valentine’s Day, while 15% will be going to a bar with hopes of meeting someone new.
- Even those in relationships are keeping it low-key for Valentine’s Day, with 40% claiming they’re skipping typical things like fancy dinners, drinks and gifts this year.
- But 50% of people in relationships say they think it’s more important to show appreciation and celebrate their partners every day of the year, not just on Valentine’s Day.
- For those who still plan on celebrating the holiday, 63% prefer a more intimate night as a couple over an elaborate night out.
