A Purple Heart veteran and his family have a new place to call home and it didn’t cost them a thing. U.S. Army Sergeant Javier Torres was wounded while serving in Afghanistan, getting shot twice while getting out of a vehicle.
He recovered and started a family and then connected withOperation Finally Home, a group that helps wounded veterans get into a mortgage-free home. They partnered with home builder Pulte Group through their Built to Honor program and after building the brand-new home, they furnished it for the family as a surprise.
The four-bedroom house in Land O’ Lakes, Florida, is a big step up from the family’s former two-bedroom apartment. Javier, his wife Stephanie and their three daughters are excited to start living in their new home together. “This is like a dream come true,” Torres says. “Beyond a dream come true.”
