A Virginia family’s decision to take the scenic route home paid off for them big time. Dhrupal Patel tells Virginia Lottery officials he was driving back home to Herndon with his wife and child after a trip to the Smoky Mountains and they decided to take the back country roads instead of the interstate.
Their journey led them to stop at a store in Tazewell for snacks and coffee and Patel picked up a scratch-off lottery ticket, too. Turns out, that was a smart move because it was a winner. He nabbed the top prize of $777,777.
“I was not able to talk,” Patel recalls. “I couldn’t believe it!” He’s planning to use his new fortune to take care of his family and adds that he feels “very blessed.”
