A pilot is being called a hero after he safely landed a plane on a Pennsylvania highway. In a Facebook post, the Exeter Township Police Department writes that the “young hero pilot” made the emergency landing on Route 422 near Redding on Monday evening with two passengers on board.
Officials report that the pilot - who hasn’t been identified - was flying the Cessna plane when its engine failed mid-flight. He was able to bring the plane down to the road, “navigating through vehicles” and hitting only one car with minor damage.
The Exeter PD’s post referred to the pilot as “Exeter Sully” - a nod to Captain Sully, the “Miracle on the Hudson” pilot who safely landed a plane on the Hudson River in 2009, saving everyone on board.
