Austin Russell was headed to an annual New Year's bike ride, when he heard barking and saw splashing in the water..
When he realized a dog was stuck in the river, his plans changed. He enlisted the help of a campus security guard, and they tried to get the dog out with a mop, but it was too short, so Austin quickly came up with another idea.
As the dog started swimming downstream, Austin saw some land under the train tracks, and there he was able to grab the dog and get him out of the frigid water.
Now, Max may need a new home, and Austin says he would love to adopt him!
