Carrie Underwood Makes Country Music History With New Album 'Cry Pretty'

Carrie Underwood just broke a major country music record.

As of Sunday (September 23), the "Spinning Bottles" songbird is the first female country artist to notch four number one records with the release of her latest full-length, Cry Pretty, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart.

According to Billboard, Underwood's new record, which dropped September 14 through Capitol Nashville, achieved 266,000 equivalent album units within its first week — 251,000 of which were attributed to traditional album sales, per records from Nielsen Music.

This new accomplishment also makes the 35-year-old the only woman in history to send four country music albums to the top slot of the all-genre chart. The seven-time Grammy winner was also met with No. 1 acclaim with previous records Carnival Ride (2007), Play On (2009), and Blown Away (2012).

Additionally, Billboard reports Underwood's sixth studio offering ranks as the highest release (266k units) for any country album since Luke Bryan's Kill the Lights achieved 345,000 units in August 2015. The work also bested Cardi B's debut entry, Invasion of Privacy, with the largest week for a female musician as the "Bodak Yellow" rapper bowed at 255,000 units this year.

Underwood has released two singles leading up to Cry Pretty's release, including the title track and the anthemic tune "Love Wins." She will promote the album with the "Cry Pretty Tour 360," slated to launch May 2019 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The "Kingdom" songstress, who is currently pregnant with her second child, recently put on an exciting showcase at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Festival over the weekend.
