Tammie Hedges runs Crazy’s Claws n Paws, a non-profit group that helps people with their vet bills, pet supplies, and also tries to find homes for pets in need.
Before Florence hit, she was starting to convert a warehouse into a shelter. With so many people desperate to evacuate, and unwilling to leave their pets, Tammie offered the space as a last-minute option for sheltering the animals.
"The goal was to make sure they were not out there drowning” but officials say the facility was not registered as a shelter.
From the Crazy's Claws n Paws Facebook: "Currently, there is no city, county, or state plan for natural disaster displaced animals." NOW who's crazy?!
