First Responders Mow Yard For Army Vet With Heat Exhaustion!

It may be fall, but it’s still extremely hot in south Florida. And when an elderly Army veteran was suffering from heat exhaustion, a group of first responders went above and beyond the call of duty to help him out.

A crew from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Station 47 responded to a call about a man passed out at his home. They found 80-year-old Prince Pinkney had heat exhaustion after working in the yard with his wife, Rebecca. The vet had gotten overheated and the crew immediately cooled him off, but their work wasn’t finished yet. When his medical emergency was over, the first responders took it upon themselves to finish cutting the grass for Pinkney, who served as a missile tech in the Vietnam War.

“Their story is amazing in itself,” Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Captain Terry Maylor says of the couple. “Their age, what they’ve gone through, his history as a veteran serving his country. If that doesn’t move you to go ahead and do what you’re capable of, then nothing will.”
